We have decided that when our youngest son, Jackson, who started Kindergarten just last week, graduates from high school, our journey to the sea will begin.
This blog will hopefully document the trials and tribulations of our preparations for this life-changing decision.
As in everything else, the beginning is the easy part. I'm sure that as the days, weeks, months and years go slowly by, our perception of what we are planning to do will evolve and change. We may decide (or have decided for us by fate) that the dream is unattainable. But barring disaster or catastrophe, I honestly believe our minds to be one and our belief that this is truly how we want to spend several years of our life together is steadfast.
This blog will serve as a peer-review (which is among the long list of terms I hope to forget the meaning of once I own a 42' foot sailboat and am somewhere in the Sea of Cortez). My way of owning the decision I have made to work towards a great adventure with the woman I will spend the rest of my life with.
It will be a winding path that gets us there, but it is one that we are walking together. I hope that documenting the journey will be as interesting to read as it is to write.
Your wife came across our blog (www.doolittlecruising.blogspot.com) which led me to your blog.
ReplyDeleteSo much to say.....so slow at typing......
The journey IS the destination I think is the main thing I would say to you. Getting ready to go is a HUGE part of the actual trip.....enjoy every minute of planning, scheming, saving, sacraficing as you get ready for this. And be honest about how scary it is.....I had done this trip before and it STILL made me nervous to cast off the dock lines.
But most of all, ENJOY it.....it is a great ride!!
Best,
And don't hesitate to bring any questions.
BTW, I spent the summer back here in SF teaching at SF Sailing Co...a very good organization. Let them know I referred you!
